Reading For Pleasure

'Step through a book into a world of adventure.'
We set out to create a space which would celebrate books, inspire children to read and fire their imaginations.

We have completed a list of books that we think will fire a child's love of reading. The list is by no means exhaustive. Please click on Recommended Reading to download.

We also thoroughly recommend 'Why you should read children's books, even though you are so old and wise' by Katherine Rundell, Bloomsbury 2019.

Our library: 'If you don't like to read, you haven't found the right book.'

The aim of our library is to foster a love of books and reading in children. The school was part of a Wiltshire 'Reading for Pleasure' pilot study. This was a response to some major government research on reading for pleasure, which you can find here.

You can download a copy of our Reading for Pleasure Policy which is updated by the staff every year.

Click here to see details of how we teach reading. Most children complete the Calne Summer Reading Challenge and we share their achievements early in the Autumn term at a parents' assembly.
